34 // #Go Shawty It's Ya Birthday

This past Sunday was my 34th birthday and I have been looking forward to it for weeks. I am one of those weird people that really enjoys their birthday.
At the end of last month I was kind of in a weird place (nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I guess I'll eat some worms) all kinds of emotions were residing just below the surface but I had no time for such things so I brushed them aside.
Thankfully, another issue forced me to step outside myself and focus on a dear friend and the 82 minute phone call that followed brought some much needed clarity.
I started the week off with a bang (in my opinion) as I was the beneficiary of some great skin/makeup and good hair karma. Top that off with I was loving all my outfits? I mean.....
I couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off my birthday week.

Thursday evening I met a girlfriend for late night drinks and eats and we chatted the night away while devouring some delicious snacks.

My brother and his girlfriend arrived on Thursday and we were able to spend Friday evening with them and my aunt. It was pretty awesome. I haven't spent my birthday with my brother in years and to have him and my family all under one roof in the days leading up to it.....my cup runneth over.

Many of you may not know this but I am a makeup artist by trade and Saturday I had the pleasure of being the artist in residence for a longtime friend Jenn. I've known her since Jr. High and it was so lovely to see her marry the love of her life.

Did I mention the wedding was in Bel Air? Yes, as in Fresh Prince of.....
The house was phenomenal , the ceremony touching and every bit them. Once again I was reminded why I love doing makeup for weddings in particular. And since I happened to personally know the bride it was even more special.

Sunday the hubs and I headed to the L.A. Wine Festival for the second year in a row. It did not disappoint. We had a fantastic time just the two of us and it was really great to get out and just be with one another. No kids, no major distractions (aside from my incessant need to Instagram), just he and I.

There were some fabulous wines sipped, scrumptious truffle fries consumed and an overall feeling of contentment.

We ended our evening at El Cholo, one of my favorite places of all time. It was an excellent day.

I also scored a new purse and jeans at T.J. Maxx prior to the festival, so that made my day even jazzier.

The number of birthday wishes on Instagram, Facebook, via text and phone calls was just icing on the cake. I felt so much love I was almost full to bursting.
It was the by far the best birthday I've had in a long time. I got some cool gifts too but really it was just about spending time with the ones I love and just kind of relaxing and being in the moment.
Slowly, savoring 34 and everything this past year has taught me.
I am so looking forward to seeing what's next!

What did you all do this weekend?
