Home Style: Brightening up for Spring (under $100)

Lately I've had a case of the I want to change something.
It always happens this time of year. When the sun begins to shine more and the days start to get longer, the flowers begin to bloom and everything looks fresh and new.
I want the same feeling in my indoor space.
While I was pregnant I nested big time and created a few fun things for around the house but lately I've been itching to do more. To do bigger and brighter things.
In my dreams I would get a new couch but in real life that's just not in the budget so I headed to HomeGoods to see what was what.
I was hoping to find some fabulous pillows that would brighten up our current living space and sort of distract from the fact that our couch is not quite what it once was (thank you Baby Ninja).
I also needed to find something that was not going to shock the Mr. but still satisfy my color jones.

I was so happy with how it all turned out I couldn't wait for D to get home.
But alas, something was missing. And then it hit me: the pillow by Michelle Dwight designs I'd seen floating around the Internet and looking me dead in the face in my HGTV magazine, was calling my name. I had to have it.
So I placed my order. And it is perfect.
D came home, took one look and said : "Yes."
Husband approved. Which, let's face it, is always a struggle when decorating is involved.
I was so inspired I wanted to do more so I bought some fresh flowers to put on the table and mantle and add some life to each space.

These simple changes were so easy to do (minus all the hemming & hawing in HomeGoods) that I wanted to share a few more tips with you!

So here are my top 5 ways to brighten up your home for Spring for under $100!
Home Style: Sprucing up for Spring

  1. Fresh flowers make a big impact. Try your local farmers market or in a pinch Coscto has a pretty decent selection.
  2. Pillows. A few brightly colored or patterned pillows can make a huge difference on an otherwise dull surface.
  3. Throws. I love a good throw and think mixing patterns and colors will add spice to any space.
  4. Paint/Wallpaper. Add some depth to a bookshelf by painting the back a contrasting color or adding wallpaper in a fun pattern for an unexpected twist.
  5. Lamps. Lighting is key in any space and a funky lamp can change mood of the whole room.
