What I'm wearing -Style Post

Time for another addition of What I Wore Wednesday with Lindsey!
Have I mentioned before how much I love this concept because it keeps me accountable to wear real clothes everyday?
Which is especially hard during summer when we have no set schedule so it's totally acceptable to stay in pj's or workout gear until just before my husband comes home.
However this week I've been slacking a bit - I rocked shorts and a v-neck tee two days in a row and spent most of yesterday in workout gear.....
so I'm going to do what all good bloggers do: post photos from last week when I was cute!
Ha!

I rocked this outfit to the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl!
Total cost = under $60 #winning!

Fedora: Forever 21
Top: 14th & Union - Nordstrom Rack
Skirt: Forever 21

Monday  my mini me came downstairs and had stolen my whole outfit
Great minds think alike?

Currently Craving

Do you ever get a massive case of the "I wants"?
I know I do.
In this age of technology Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook allow us to instantaneously share our most recent purchases and obsessions.
It's great for sparking creativity where there is none and for discovering new things which I love.
It also has a way of making me crave items I might not think otherwise about.
And because my money is funny & my change is strange (i.e. I am on a budget) I have to post about these items and wait for them either to go on sale or get creative with what I got!
Here are a few of my current craves:

An organized closet.
If I can't have a fancy walk-in-closet I'll be totally okay with these organized versions

And a myriad of other items but I don't want to bore you to death or have you think I'm totally shallow.
I think it's all this "free time" we have around here.
No school pick ups or places we have to be (until next week when swim lessons start).
It's got my wheels turning and my creative juices flowing.
It may also be due to the fact that I haven't done a craft project since before the baby was born and I am itching to spruce up the house yet again.
However, I am trying to hold off on any major projects until we move again and that might be months so bear with me mmmmkay?
thaaaanks.

What's on your wish list right now?

Gathering the Girls

My daughter had a mini sleepover the other night with one of her BFF's that (fortunately) lives around the corner from us.
And by around the corner I mean walking distance which I think is fabulous.
Anywho - I was watching/ listening to them chat  and play the other day and it made my heart happy that she has a friend she can do that with and she is getting to the age where she wants to do that quite often.
Girl time is very important whether you are 10 or 40.
And then I read my friend Rachel's blog post about how she and her girlfriends get together every other week and there was a little twinge in my heart.
I miss my girl time.
It's been awhile since we had a ladies night. Either in or out.
Everyone's schedule is jam packed these days with work, new babies, summer activities and just....well stuff!
I think it's high time we ladies got a little more consistent with our gatherings.
At least my ladies need to anyway.
My friend Heather has a fabulous Etsy shop and she posted these cute invitations on Facebook a few days ago
wine & cheese // printable invitation
source

And then I was watching HGTV and it was giving suggestions to use chalkboard contact paper and slat slabs to host a wine tasting night and I thought to myself, "Self - the world is trying to tell you something".
It doesn't help that I received to yummy bottles of wine for my birthday so clearly there is a theme happening here.

I need to host a wine tasting event at my house!
Duh.
The only issue is when will there ever be time?
July is pretty busy already what with our anniversary and the family picnic among other happenings and August is starting to fill up with weddings (whoo hoo! business is picking up!).....
Oy!
Ideally I'd like to do it while the weather is still nice and the night seems forever young.....
so who knows.
And as much as I would love it to be "pinterest perfect" I may just get crazy and throw something together and not care about the decor but rather focus on the company.
Because, let's face it the company is what's really important anyway isn't it?
I love/crave quality time with my ladies and I think we are long overdue for a night of laughter, snacks and some relaxation.
I can see it now....twinkling candlelights on the patio, a variety of wines and cheeses, mini bruschetta bites and fresh fruit.
The clink of glasses mixed with the sound of  chatter & laughter from ladies just letting their hair down for a few hours.....
Sounds like I need to get my party plan on!

What do you and your girlfriends do for your ladies nights?

4 months - Baby Chronicles

This week will mark 4 months of being a family of four.
Seems like he's been here all along and then it seems so weird that he hasn't.
A lot has happened in four months.
Aside from the physical changes (this baby went from being a tiny ninja to a cuddly bear in 16 short weeks)
his personality is beginning to show.
And I am loving that.
He is such a happy baby about 85% of the time
The rest of the time he's cranky because he's either overtired or hungry.
We are actually getting more sleep (most nights) and it has made for a much happier household.
In the beginning I was happy for the help offered as I was recovering from surgery and couldn't do much.
Then I figured since I was home, I could handle it.
"I got it." became my mantra.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
After one too many sleepless nights followed by a long day and almost messing up the 4th grade mission project.....I reached out to my hubby for his assistance.
I was specific in what I needed and he was happy to oblige.
He even suggested we look into getting a house keeper to come in at least once a month and do the heavy cleaning.
Thank the Lord for that man!
I wanted to get into my feelings and  be resentful for a minute
(what you don't think I'm capable of managing a home, taking care of the kids, laundry, dinner etc AND cleaning!??)
and then I realized:
 a) it would be much more beneficial to me to get some extra help
b) my hormones had gotten the best of me and I was trippin'
c) I cannot do it all and it's high time I stopped making myself crazy trying!
I loathe doing certain chores (i.e. mopping) so I put them off and then by the time I get around to it ......well, it's kind of gross so it frustrates me even more.
Having someone else do it would not only save my sanity but I would have a clean house and not have to worry about when I will find the time!
He's a good husband.
Sweet Pea has also stepped up her big sister game - now that Carson is more 'fun' (i.e. he smiles, laughs and chats) she is more than happy to entertain him for a few minutes so mommy can ____________(pee, put dinner in the oven, take a shower, get dressed etc)
This has helped me immensely.
I've gotten better at managing my time and we are on a pretty good schedule so I can plan out when I can tackle business matters and on what days, give myself time to write for both blogs  and just have some morning me time.
Working out has been GREAT for my sanity as well.
Not to mention the results I've gotten.
Four months postpartum and I'm officially back in all of my jeans and clothing.
(toots own horn...beeeeep beeep!)
I am thrilled.
Now its really about maintaining a consistent workout schedule to keep me where I want to be and to have that release.
I still work out at a crazy hour (most days) but there is no longer that feeling of " OMG!!I HAVE TO DO THIS" if I miss one day in the week.
Overall we seem to have hit our stride and it feels so good.
In four months Carson has
been to San Diego & celebrated Cinco De Mayo
been to Palm Springs and gotten in the pool
had his first airplane ride all the way to Ohio
met a famous comedienne
ridden on a trolley
ridden in a limo
been to two weddings & danced the night away
and generally charmed all he's come into contact with
He wakes up chatty and ready to face the day full of coo's, toothless grins and ready to play.
He's begun to roll over from tummy to back and is working on going back to tummy and it's hilarious.
He makes the funniest faces and has a very 'serious' stare as he checks out everything and everyone.
He's begun to eat cereal (and make a mess while doing so) and is 18 pounds and 27.5 inches of fluff.
Watching him grow is awesome.
Photo: Someone tried cereal for the first time. I think he might like it @ddorsey5 #lunchtime #babyninja http://instagr.am/p/MKAcP7sw9O/
I vaguely remember some of these moments with Sweet Pea but I was in such a haze after her birth that it all seems like a distant dream.
I cannot imagine my life without these two little precious beings.
I am so happy we waited this long to have Carson and are able to really enjoy all his antics while still being relaxed enough to know that the tough times are just a phase and 'this too shall pass'.
In the begining there were definitely some dark days and I feel like I have come so far as a mother in the last four months as well as a family.
Just as he has grown each day, so have I.
We are learning each others strengths and weakness
finding a middle ground between sleep deprivation and alertness
while laughing each and every day
and that folks....is the best kind of progress.

For all the Men in our lives

Today is a Father's Day and being that I have an awesome husband who is a great father and that I'm a total "Daddy's Girl" it seems only appropriate that I write a little sumthin sumthin.

To my husband:
who works so hard to provide for our family
who takes care of us in a way that no one else can
who loves to make his kids laugh and spends hours explaining the mundane to those with perpetual questions
who makes me laugh til I cry daily
who listens to all my hare brained schemes and flights of fancy and simply says "okay"
who is my best friend and lets me just be me
who agreed to being the breadwinner so I can stay home with our kids and follow my makeup artistry dreams.
Thank you.
You are an amazing man and father.
I couldn't have asked for a better support system for me, a partner in life and father to my children.
We have been so blessed with these two little wonders and I am grateful that they have you to look up to.
I love you.

To my Father:
There are no words to express the magnanimous amount of  love & gratitude I have towards you.
You listen to me, you laugh with me (and sometimes at me) you talk to me and not at me.
You are not just my father you are also my friend.
You gave me an example of what a man should be and I am so pleased you approve of my choice in mates.
You picked me up whenever I fell (no matter my age)
You give of your time and energy whenever I need it
You instilled in me a distinct love for language, order and a small bit of chaos.
You taught me to follow my dreams and keep God first and it will all work out in the end.
You are always there for me.
You are a wonderful 'Papa' and I am so glad my kids get to grow up with you in their lives.
Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for me and my family.

To the "Uncles"
(Al, Muji, Ryan)
You all are raising fantastic kids.
You go above and beyond what some deem necessary and then go a step further
You support not only your kids but mine as well
You have shown up to countless birthday parties, cookouts and appreciated many a drawing and story telling.
You let them climb on your and hug your knees and give out countless squeezes and tickles.
They enjoy it.
Thank you for being there for our kids.

We love you so much and are so happy to have you in our lives

Happy Fathers Day y'all!!

simple things

This is the first 'official ' of summer vacation and I must say we have been pretty lazy.
Mostly because we are recovering from our week long vacation + travel extravaganza the first weekend in June and then from the birthday festivities last weekend......I am exhausted.
My brain has been on hyper drive for two weeks straight and I've had a strong desire (need) to take it easy.
So we have been.
Simple early dinners, hanging out around the house, reading books, going for walks around the neighborhood.
It's been pretty peaceful.
I am overjoyed to not have to get up and do hair at 7:30 every morning and to have a baby bear who consistently wakes up happy and chatty.
Here are some of my favorite things this week:

* that moment when you look at the two people you made and realize how blessed you are to watch them grow each and everyday
Photo: With our stunna shades on #babyninja #fashion #familystyle #stunnashades http://instagr.am/p/L302svsw7u/
put ya stunna shades on!
* when your husband comes home from work and starts cracking you up even though you're exhausted
* getting asked "are you going to leave the house today?" while grasping for a few extra minutes of sleep
* staying in your pajamas well past noon
* opening all the windows & blinds first thing in the morning and letting the sun shine in
* picnics on the floor with your mini me while watching movies
* afternoon walks around the neighborhood w/ a little girl who enjoys pointing out the sights to her baby brother who sings his appreciation
* a baby bear who passes out in your lap after the mid-day walk

"don't wake me - I drank too much last night"

* a husband who works half days and comes home early to play

Life is looking pretty good.
No rushing hither tither and yon to get things turned in on time or

How is your summer going?

What I wore

You'd think with a birthday last weekend I would've taken some outfit photos but alas I did not.
I got one image from the BBQ party on Sunday but that's it.

Shoes: Havianas

Monday I barely got out of my jammies in time for Babe to come home
So here's a quick round up of what I've worn so far this week:

Brunch Options:

The goal is to not purchase anything new for either event.
I know - shocking for me to even utter that out loud but its true - I'd much rather go through my closet and see what I can re-mix to give the feel of some of these outfit ideas.
I'm pretty sure I have quite a few of the pieces on hand.
I just need to get creative with what I've got!
If not there will be a quick trip to Forever 21 or Nordstrom Rack Friday afternoon for sure!
What do you when you're in an outfit rut?
