3 days...

Finally a moment to breath and somewhat gather my thoughts!
What a week it has been!
This past week (leading up to Memorial Day) was a busy one if there ever was one as I was working OT for 5 days straight to get our productivity level to where it needed to be to have that extra day off work.
Sweet Pea left to venture off to good old Katy, Texas with my mom to meet her cousins for the first time.
She had a BLAST of course. After a minor 'kerfluffle" with the afternoon pick up from school, my mom got Sweet Pea on Thursday afternoon so they could head out to the Big T later that evening.
After an uneventful flight they arrived safely in Houston and were ready to play!
My dear cousin Damon, has a daughter that is 6 months younger than my Sweet Pea and the girls already talk to each other on the phone, however, they had never met so both were JAZZED about seeing each other face to face.
I happen to think my cousin is the bee's knee's so I was pretty jazzed about the kid getting some QT with him, his wife and kids as well.
That just made my heart happy.
While the kid was off "visiting", me & Babe had a couple "dates" in the works.
Friday night we headed to his good friends 9th annual Gemini in White party as we do every year.
Babe's other BFF was flying solo as his wife is 6 months with child so guess who got to be Sober Suzy and chaffuer her hubby & his buddy around.
Awww yeah....mmmhmmm.......that'd be me.
yaay.
Of course  because the birthday boy is Babe's BFF we shut.the.club.down. and of course I had to be in Long Beach for 830am to get my hair done and of course we didn't get home until 3:30am.
sweet.
However, I was smart and pro-active by taking a 5 hour energy ( well half of one) prior to our going out so I wouldn't feel like death warmed over come Saturday morning.
It worked too!
Almost a little too well as I was raring to go by 8am that same day.
I made my appointment just shy of 8:30 and left looking and feeling fabulous with a brand new do'.
Grabbed some fries and went by my dad's for a bit, then quickly caught up with an old friend and headed over the hill.
By 6pm I finally crashed.
Babe and I ran to get some Chipotle and then cuddled up on the couch to clean up our DVR.
Sunday was a really relaxing day.
Finally got my sleep schedule back to "normal" so I was definitely more rested than the day before.
Spent the entire day just hanging out with my Babe.
We decided to go to the movies and put to use the Fandango special we got from Living Social a few months ago. Two movie tickets for $9!! Score!
Who doesn't want to  go to the movies essentially for free????? Of course we ended up seeing more than one movie but I tapped out at going to see a third after having spent 4 hours in front of a screen.
Kind of lame since I did really want to see the Hangover 2 but I have a feeling there will be another opportunity quite soon.
We ended up seeing Bridesmaids and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and enjoyed them both.
Bridesmaids was pee-on-yourself-laugh-out-loud kind of funny whereas Pirates was just "okay". It was good but c'mon..... it's the 4th movie in a franchise of GREAT movies and it was just kind of  "okay".
But that didn't put a damper on our day! Nope after the movies we headed on over to the local Fatburger and got our grub on!! It was so delicious I thought I was going to die.
In fact, I'm pretty sure I was whimpering a bit and making happy food noises.
Classy, I know.
We then headed home to cuddle up to a little Law & Order on the DVR and called it a night!
Yesterday (Monday) we puttered around the house as long as we could then gathered ourselves together to head over to the Muhammad's for some Monday Funday BBQing.
It didn't take the fellas long to start talking noise about who's the best "grill master" so it looks like we'll be hosting yet another grill- off this summer as well.
gotta work on the score cards and voting criterion before that goes down that's for sure!
And now we are back at it!
A few short days of work and then another bustling weekend!
Then next week.....My birthday!!!
Hooray!!!

How did you spend your 3 days?

It's been awhile since I've written here.
Not for lack of things to say or thoughts but more like a lack of .....inspiration perhaps?
Or just some cohesion.
It's hard somedays/times for me to find an ending place to all my ramblings and musings and come here to get them out.
somedays (like today) they are better done in list form
  • the past few weeks have been amazing. not for any particular reason other than I am just really enjoying my time. time spent with Sweet Pea, time with Babe and time with my girlfriends. It makes me whole
  • my birthday is exactly 3 weeks from today. I'll be 32. that doesn't even sound right.
  • I haven't bought shoes in almost a month. got a few cute dresses though. but no shoes. this saddens me.
  • I have few things in the works in progressing toward my dreams that are making me very excited. Forcing myself to just DO them is a whole other story. working on that though. letting go of fears and just going forth with grace.
  •  this lady once again made it possible for me to "whip up" something A-MAZING for dinner. love it when the family comes home, I'm in the kitchen and the first thing they say is "it's smells GREAT in here". It was SO good. and I got to bust out my dutch oven once again. It's so funny to me that I enjoy cooking the way I do. Years ago I wouldn't have ever thought I'd be this jazzed about it but I've found that its one of the best ways to show & share my love for my family.
  •  I'm currently reading 'Water for Elephants' and I l-o-v-e love it. I'm about 30 or so odd pages away from the end and I can't get enough. I want to devour and savor it at the same time.
  • I came across this yesterday. One word: YUM. think I will make that as my birthday treat.
  •  I'm back to the morning workouts. Almost a year after I'd stopped them (thank you wedding stress for giving a reason/need to get up and "work it out"). Since Babe and I will be off to Sin City for a few days soon and summer "officially" right around the corner - I figured I needed to step it up to get that bathing suit body back. sort of.
  • tomorrow is family fun night at Sweet Pea's school. should be pretty fun.  kind of like a carnival; they have "booths" set up for the kids to win prizes from, a cake walk and even a DJ!
  • I have some crafting projects that I'd like to implement around the house as well to bring more color into our space and liven up the joint. I'll let you know how that goes.
  • I'm ready to go to Vegas NOW. seriously. I want to pack and everything. strongly resisting the urge to lay out all my clothing ideas in 'storyboard' style. Let's get this show on the road!
  • Before we go to Vegas we're going HERE to celebrate my 32nd with a few friends and some good eats. We may also do a mini-fiesta at the house the next day for those who aren't able to attend but we'll see what Babe says. I say yes. I want a Margarita Machine!
whew! see told you my thoughts were all over the place!

It's almost time!!

Our 1 year wedding anniversary is coming up quicker than I'd ever imagined it would.
Can you believe it's almost been a year since this happened?
I certainly can't. I spent most of 2010 wishing it would speed by and get to July and then it happened and now it seems like it was just yesterday!
We've been trying to decide how to celebrate for a little while, where to go (if anywhere) and what to do.
How do you mark one year of marriage, 13 years of friendship and 9 years as parents?
We tossed around many an idea.
Go back to Cabo? Try someplace new? Stay local?
We definitely didn't want to spend a ton as summer will be in full swing and it gets pretty busy with all the birthdays and family activities that happen.
And we did want to go somewhere
( my only requirement is that there is a pool so I can lay out and relax)
I wasn't too particular about where exactly so long as it was he & I for at least 3 days.
Well, the verdict is in and it's official!

Come July we're going to
Whoo hoo!!
We love Vegas and since it's a few short hours from where we live it's the perfect choice!
We can do all the things we both love and still spend some quality time together!!
We actually haven't been there together since 2008 and we had a BALL then!
My one request for this trip is that we go see one of the Cirque Du Soleil shows and Babe agreed we needed to do something other than go out dancing since it would just be the two of us.
I'm so excited!!
I've already started planning outfits and he's researching hotel deals, fancy restaurants and show prices among a few other "surprises"!!
So looking forward to this trip!

But I'm curious - what does one give for the 1st anniversary?
I know "tradition" says that it's paper but what does that mean????
And how do you all celebrate YOUR anniversary???

mothers day 2011

Being a mother is the greatest job in the world.
I am so blessed to have my Sweet Pea and thankful that she changed my life when and how she did.
I don't know what or where I'd be without her.
This year was Mother's Day was a bit different.
My girlfriends and I decided a few months back to take a day off and indulge in a spa day at Glen Ivy Hot Springs.
I invited a slew of my "mommy friends" to come and hang out at the Spa for the day and just RELAX.
Something most of us women fail to do on a consistent basis what with all the mothering we have to do.
The lovely thing about Glen Ivy is that because it's a hot springs you don't necessarily have to have any treatments done to enjoy your day!
However they were offering some great specials and thanks to my wonderful Babe and my dad I was able to book a  Spa Detox package!!
80 glorious minutes filled with a Swedish massage, a sugar scrub and a body wrap plus a visit to the Grotto.
D-VINE!!
ahhh!  I enjoyed every minute of it.
My therapist was a-mazing and super nice to boot.
We actually hugged at the end of my treatment we felt so connected!
Is that weird?
After that it was time for lunch w/ some YUMMY nachos and of course "beverages".

We then spent some time lounging at the pool and then headed off to the famous moisturizing Grotto ( not that Grotto) for some extra skin love.
We finished the afternoon off basking in the sun and just enjoying each other's company.
It was a day well spent w/ friends, yummy food, fabulous weather and drinks!

Sunday I slept in and awoke to the sound of the text message alert on my phone......lots of love from friends old & new , near and far.....I opened up my gift from my Sweet Pea and was so excited to see a decoupage vase w/ tissue paper flowers!

I made a similar one as a child and have been patiently waiting my turn to receive one of my own!
My mother came over for a lovely dinner of panini's and Bellini's and we had a lovely evening just laughing and hanging out.
We only took a few photos (stupid broken camera) and not one of the 3 of us!!
I was so happy to have gotten to spend time with both Quenisha and LaShaunda - not only did they get along famously we laughed until our sides were sore and have plans to hang out again and soon!!
Love those girls!
It was a great weekend and I'm already looking forward to what the rest of the month will bring!!

Happy Mothers day to all!!

royally entertained

whew! I am a whipped sister!
This past weekend we had the pleasure of watching two sweet young'ns and they wore your girl OUT!
As the mother of an independent, self-entertained 9 yr. old I was not at all prepared for what it would be like to have a 15month old and a 3 month old for 3.5 days.
OH.BOY.

Cute aren't they?
Yeah I was duped by those angelic little faces as well.
Sweetest little ones ever and I was happy to do a favor for our dear friends the Pierre's so they could celebrate their anniversary sans kids but I forgot about that whole babies and not-sleeping-through-the-night thing.
Fun for me.
Kingston (the oldest) was a great sleeper. Puts himself down when he's good and tired and I dig that.
Although  we didn't get a whole lot of "rest" for the weekend we had a blast "refreshing" our baby skillz.
It's been a while since our Sweet Pea was just a wee one and I realized a few things
1) I totally take her self sufficiency for granted
2) sleeping in on Saturday is a blessing
3) my hubby holding a sweet little babe, chatting and making faces melts my heart.
So - our little "party of 5" hit two birthday parties in two days, watched a few movies and just kicked it with the kiddos. Loading up the car and trying to leave in a timely manner was an adventure in and of itself let me tell ya!
Good times.
Their parents came to pick them up Monday afternoon and I was excited to enjoy the rest of my day since the weather was so nice.
And well...yeah I promptly passed out on the couch.
Monday night our house was so quiet it was almost eerie. After all the hustle and bustle of the last few days it was a shock to the system and we found ourselves longing for the indistinguishable chatter of "royal boys".
sigh.
Thanks so much Al & Monica for letting us keep the boys, Happy Anniversary to you all and we can't wait to have them over again!
Preferably when the little one is sleeping through the night.
I am definitely ready for my massage on Saturday.
