I've been following along with this super cool blog: Kendi Everyday I stumbled upon via Andrea at Four Flights of Fancy and it's totally making re-think how I get dressed and how I shop.
Kendi is hosting the 30x30 challenge where you take 30 items and remix only those items into 30, (hopefully) stylish outfits.
1. Pick 30 items or less from your closet. Shoes are included, but accessories and jewelry are not.
2. Remix the 30 items into 30 different outfits.
That's it! Well not entirely so..
3. Don't shop for 30 days.
That last one is killer. I mean how many times have we all run to Forever 21, H&M or Target for a 'cute shirt to wear out' or a 'simple dress for tonight'? I know I do it. And usually when I can't afford to.
So I dig the rules of this challenge.
I'm not quite ready to play along as I still need to go through my closet and purge quite a bit but I think that once I do I will happily take it on.
Just looking at the items that Andrea and Kendi have picked has inspired me to take better stock of my closet and to spin a few of my tried and true favorite ensembles.
The reason I think this struck a chord is that I have done a bit of shopping lately. More than I usually do.
I've purchased 3 pairs of shoes within the last month. Granted I do plan to get rid of some shoes but this is a splurge for me!
Last year was all about saving for the wedding and NOT shopping or spending money on 'extras' - having to 'make do' and it was HARD! A girl needs to switch things up every so often and that's hard to do on a limited budget with no wiggle room.
But I did it.
And now I am acting like money grows on trees.
I need to slow down for sure. And with the Holidays fast approaching it only makes sense I take on a challenge like this NOW when I'm being teased and tortured by all the pretty, sparkly things in my inbox, mailbox and on the web.......sigh.
But - I am determined to not shop for the next 30 days. That's the least I can do.
When I'm ready to shop again I will really examine what it is I'm buying and WHY.
With a paired down closet I think it will be much easier to get my 'style' together.
Then beginning December I will see if I'm ready for the challenge.
Could you take on the 30x30 challenge? Does the thought of that scare or excite you?
